Why Google Search's AI Shift Is More Dangerous for Korean Ecommerce Brands
Google Search is not disappearing overnight. But the way ecommerce brands get discovered through search is changing fast.
The risk is clear: in AI-driven search, customers may not browse ten blue links. They may ask a question and receive a small set of brands that AI considers answer-worthy. If a brand is not in that set, one of its search-driven sales channels can weaken dramatically.
Search is moving from ranking to citation
Traditional SEO gave brands many ways to be found. A seller did not always need to rank first. A motivated buyer could still scan page two or page three, compare multiple links, and discover a brand with the right keywords, backlinks, and content.
AI search narrows that discovery path. Users increasingly see a synthesized answer before they see a list of links. Pew Research analysis found that when AI summaries appeared, clicks on standard search results dropped from 15% to 8%, while clicks on links inside AI summaries were around 1%.
