OpenAI recently expanded ChatGPT ads worldwide. It rolled out ChatGPT ads to additional countries across Europe, India, and parts of the Middle East and North Africa, and strengthened the full range of ad-operations capabilities—from ad creation and targeting to performance analysis and optimization.
“So we don’t need to do Organic anymore, right?”
A client asked us exactly this: “Organic search visibility takes a long time and a lot of resources, and it isn’t even 100% guaranteed. If we have the budget, can’t we just run ChatGPT ads and be done with it?”
Answer first: no, that’s not the case.
Customers use AI across the entire discovery–validation–purchase journey
In the AI era, the customer journey is no longer linear. Customers use AI at every stage—from discovering a product to validating it and making the purchase decision. Even if an ad on ChatGPT sparks interest in a product, the customer doesn’t buy right away; they turn back to ChatGPT and ask about that product again.
“Is this product actually any good? Verify it based on other people’s reviews.”
“Compared to product A, what makes this one better?”
At this moment, if the organic answer fails to convey enough information about the product, or if a competitor’s product is recommended ahead of yours, the customer is likely to drop off. You’ve simply wasted the ad spend.
How to manage Organic and Paid together
AEKO proposes three ways to manage Organic and Paid together.
Optimize organic answers for pre-purchase prompts. When a pre-purchase question like “Is this product actually good?” comes in, optimize the organic answer so that accurate information about the product is delivered—preventing the drop-off of customers who arrived through your ads.
Use high mention-share contexts as ChatGPT ad copy. Even for the same product question, whether the product appears depends on the context. Identify the contexts in which your product is recommended most often, and use them in your ad T&D (Title & Description) to improve ad performance.
Repurpose high-performing ad T&D as content. When running ChatGPT ads, create several T&D variants, run them, and take the copy that delivers high CTR and purchase conversion—then, conversely, repurpose it as organic content. We have essentially already validated, with valuable ad spend, that this copy is effective at winning customers’ interest and driving purchases. Spreading it across various social content can effectively contribute to customer acquisition and increased purchases.
Organic & Paid: no signal is stronger than appearing on both surfaces at once
Paid does not replace Organic. It only amplifies the presence that Organic has built. When an influencer we like recommends a product, we tend to trust that product right away. And if that product happens to offer a purchase incentive as well? It becomes hard to resist buying. In the same way, when the AI a customer trusts recommends our product in an organic answer, and the Paid surface happens to show a purchase incentive for that very product, there is no stronger signal. That is why Organic and Paid must not be separated—they must be managed together.
